so i figured i would post some renders of a cartoon kid im modeling for a project were doing for team animation. Any feed back on it so far will be more then welcome. thanks

Your character loos really good, the only crit i'd have is on your side profile view (3rd Pic Down) the bit where the nose joins the face looks a bit off, like theres a long thin bump there, maybe it's efect your going for, but that the only thing i'd say that needed a bit more of attention/flatten out a bit?
Otherwise, it's looking great, looking forward seeing him textured.
Excellent - another Maya user, watch out - this place is crawing with those Max users

As for the model, ok here's what I think:
The profile of him looks good...it's got that round cartoony bubbly look. But the front view is very awkward and not very visually appealing. I'd suggest maybe making his eyes bigger and trying to make his face round overall. I'd also say move the mouth up closer to the nose....having it down as far as you do now also kinda contributes to the weird look of the character.

I agree with what you are saying about the front of the face. It does have a odd look to it. The side of the nose im going to mess with also.

adam_kehoe 30 posts02 Feb 2006hello everyone. Im back with a little update. I played with the area that the noise joins the face also I went back and made the eyes a little bigger and pulled out his cheeks some to try and round out his face a little more. Im not sure how far i should go into rounding out the lower part. I havnt moved the lip up yet because im at a stand still there. Some people are telling me to leave it because it fits his character. For the hands im not sure if im going to call them done of if i should go back in and work on them some more. I also added teeth and eyebrows
Any feedback is more then welcome.

02 Feb 2006The addition of the teeth certainly help in giving this guy some character - I like the way it's heading. The hands are nice and cartooney and I wouldn't say that they lack anything (but you may want to put another loop or two in the forearm to help with any wrist twist in animation)
I think the only problem I have is from the front view. He has some great ears, but you can't see them at all from the front... could maybe have them stick out just a little -
02 Feb 2006Hey - yeah i agree with what Global has to say about the ears in the front view, that would make the character look fuller me thinks. The teeth are a very good addition, gives him loads of character.
What render are you using in Maya? And what other additions are you using for your scene? The quaility seems very nice.
Looking forward seeing him animated.

yah i think you are right about the ears there golbal and iest_rob. I will make them stick out more. for the rendering im just useing mental ray with final gather. I saw that you wanted to see what else is going to be in the short so i got some renders of the bear and the enviroments from my other two friends who are working on this short with me.
I guess i lost the wireframe render for the bear ill post it tomarrow when i find it.
the story takes place in the zoo and ill try and get some storyboards up in a few days so you guys can see what the story is going to be like and give us a little feed back on that also.
again any feed back on these is more then welcome.

adam_kehoe 30 posts11 Feb 2006its been a while since i had some updates of the kid so here they are. Right now im doing color tests for him and im going to start building the rig for him unless there is something that anyone feels i should change.

11 Feb 2006Ha ha!!! he's looking awsome man! I really like your colour scheme, and i really dig those shoes! The only crit i'd have is that if you'd look at the second picture down, it looks like the arms are too small for the body.
Otherwise - really looking forward seeing some more work!

adam_kehoe 30 posts28 Mar 2006hey everyone its been awhile since i been here. Things were getting crazy durring school for finals week. The kid is rigged and i am still having some problems with skinning. put all that a side i have a test animation with him. He is a little stiff right now.
