22 Jun 2006Thanks for your kind words.. I am looking really to produce fine and clean meshes, who cost much amount of time, because max isnt the best modeler, you encountering a lot of troubles most if you are using often chamfer to bevel. A lot of beveling actions are tricked using the polys around, extruding them and scale them to a smaller format to reach the 45-90 point, that the line looks chamfered
Here is the finished 3D Model, sorry for being so lame using such an easy object.
I dont have the feeling i will match the rendering quality of some shown work here, but guys i will do my best to be a good opponent -

as far as a studiolight-setup goes, i would suggest not to use a hdri for the reflections
they might be very realistic in case the shot was shot outside, or in a kitchen (if you use the famous kitchen.hdr), or somewhere else...
if you want to do a studio-shot, you need to have a studio-set up...it's that easy...
a studio setup is realised throught indirect lighting and reflections through reflected whiteplanes...
think as a photographer in a studio doing a promotional shot and just recreate the studio with all it's lights and reflectionplanes inside your 3d-app... -
23 Jun 2006Hi. Its 4:35 in the morning here, the birds are going on my nuts and only 6 hours to get to work. HELL, I love this Challenge!
Improved in some ways the plastic material, now you can see directly through the plastic the package, it isnt so clean anymore to achieve a much more realistic look. There was also a color change. The Lighting was also set in another way for better shadow results.

Just with those noisy resflections. it looks a bit unusual. may be better to increase the reflection glossiness. -

24 Jun 2006Please dont say play. I ruled it. Every Character Master Materia, Level 99, Every Weapon Dead, 4 Golden Chocobos, Gametime 99:59 the Gamecounter stopped then. Every Limit with everything.
I listened to the soundtrack (I bought the whole fanstuff) about a year to get to my sleep.
What was your question? No I dont played I lived it...
(Ack.. seems i am such a nerd)

25 Jun 2006@ Ali: Final Fantasy was a great game for sure back then. Its from aspect of stroy telling, battlesystem also today superb, but the graphics are now too bad to play. But the game rocks, so much we need a remake

25 Jun 2006Now, from the start it was planed to be a final fantasy 7 memory card. There are many reasons: The new movie. Every fan is waiting for a sequel or a remake. The new upcoming playstation 3, the ff7 demo on e3. If there would be a fantasy/real promotion product, then this was the right choice. I dont want to sell an own made game product, i wanted to design a ff7 memory card. S

25 Jun 2006Also i forgot to say, if you are acting professionell in the product design world, you will get for your design needs a lof of photos or references. For example, in this event we have to think we are contacted by such a company: Then It would be totally lame to produce own images of their product having hundreds of press shots there. BTW the wouldn?t pay for that work

quinn paynter 356 posts25 Jun 2006Ok, just seems kinda wierd to me if we use other studios images as Materials. As its not our work, and this comp is for us to make up a promotional shot ourselves. If we were going to be more "professional" like you said. We would'nt be able to use these materials anyway, as theyre not our work and are copyrighted to another company . Unless you worked for SquareEnix or Sony and were making this with there approval that is. But up too you ^_^. Even though your shots do look nice, be nice to see you make your own materials for this competition, thats all.

25 Jun 2006Puh. Thats a big discussion point: I MAKE THIS STUFF FOR SONY/SQUARE in this fictiv challenge. Next point, if you use a hdri, you dont made them yourself? If you use your texutre library did you make it all by yourself?
We should stop this discussion, because i am relying on the fact, that if you get such a commission you will get plenty promotional material in the professional word. Free to use.
As an example we did for the new car peugot 207 an opening action here. WE DIDNT make one shot, except compotion, peugot cartrader gave us a huge map with thousand of superphotos. That is the way it works in the industry. Often you get a lot of shots (for example for gamewebsites) and they say: Do something good.
I for myself produced over 20 package designs for different original equipment manufacturers in the world, containing hard drives, power supplys, software, music cd and pc boxes.
I hope you understand the issue: if you would design really something for square/soony as we do here in this challenge, you wouldnt model a cloud by yourself and using it only to put it as a flat material on your package? No. And if you would do so you are really crazy, because this kind of quality takes much time, and sony/square would never pay for such invain work. Its about money.
But i do understand your oppinion! By the way your work is so much better than mine you have nothing to fear -
