Hey everyone,
Well....I'm giving something new a shot, which we will see how it goes because it's not your regular animation challenge.
Amidst all of the funny lip sync clips, and action clips and walk cycles etc etc that you see on reels over and over again, rarely do you ever see a dialogue piece that's serious or emotional. Yet, it's those same more-serious dialogue pieces that give animated movies like The Incredibles and Toy Story their hearts, and make us love them like a brother that went off to war for three years, and returned with a broken leg and a purple heart. Ok...well...whatever that means.
ANYWAYS......
Your mission for this challenge is to do a lip sync dialogue piece with the character(s) of your choice (you may make a character yourself, or use a pre-existing publicly available rig)....but the dialogue must either be serious or have an emotional edge. The emotions you choose to portray can be anything from sadness, to distress, to love, to hurt etc etc, and the clip can be from any movie or tv show of your choice. Here are the general guidelines of the challenge:
1) Your clip should be shorter than 15 seconds
2) You can use as many or as few characters as you want. Maybe you have 3-4 characters interacting, or maybe just 1 giving a monologue by him/herself....it's up to you.
3) Post any of your other questions here.....but generally the contest rules are very flexible/open
4) You have 3 weeks to complete your entry

....that means it's due on July 23rd
5) Start your thread in the form of:
Make Me Cry Your name
6) The clip doesn't actually have to "make you cry"....but the idea is that you're experimenting with serious dialogue, and not something funny or comedic
Here are some resources for dialogue clips from movies/tv, as well as free character rigs for Maya/Max:
