Make Me Cry! TYSON!!!

I'm actually going to try and enter this one!
I'll post my progress so far in a few minutes when it's done compressing... -
29 Jul 2006K....here's my first progress shot....
About 2.5 hours into it so far.....just starting to block out all the motion etc....
This is a 350 frame segment from the whole clip which is 600 frames.....the clip is from "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind"

Hey... I can't quite make out what he's saying though. What is the dialogue? (just for those working on tinny laptop speakers - and the elderly... ahem) -

29 Jul 2006Holy Sweet mother of God!!! Where did that come from??!! This one's gonna be awsome Tyson - from what i can see right now, i think it's the best aniamtion you've done! Everything fits soo well together, his sigh and i absloutly love his knee shaking like that - poor little guy, he really doesnt want to go does he?
Eternal sunshine is one of my fave movies - excellent work Tyson, I really really hope you get more timto finish it.

30 Jul 2006i was thinking about joining the comp, but now that you are in, i'm out... lol nicely done. i really like the arm motion, i can almost do the same... i'm a rubber man... yea as said, i really like the hat.
... 2.5 hours, is that 2h30 or 20h50? you confused me

In your workflow, do you do always finish the animation on the body and legs, then work on the arms and then the face? Why do you prefer this method vs doing whole poses for your characters?
Also, how did you create the background? Is it a 360 degree painting that you mapped onto a cylinder around your character? It's looking really atmospheric and creepy!

The 'signiature' camera movement is there and looks great (one of these days I want to see a tutorial!) That free looking handheld feel would take me all day to set up and look right! (or not right... probably)
I like the hat too - though I woulld suggest not having him take it off at that point, mid speech. (he seems at his most tense at that moment and so secondary action like that kinda detracts from the anim) I'd say, just as he gets up... or, better yet, when he shouts to the heavens.
At that point, when he's shouting, you may want to think about some more aggressive hand motions. As he turns he gets much more excitable, yet pleading...
Looking good though man... waiting for more updates -

I'm getting what you're saying about the hat take-off....the reason I have him taking it off at the point it is now....is because he's sort of in "pleading" mode at that point in time, so he's taking the hat off as a part of the suck-up, humbling process.....after which point he begins to get angry when he hears no response.
.....plus I already started on the fingers and I'm too lazy to go back and make major changes at this point since this is my last day to work on it -
30 Jul 2006lol! I hear ya on the lazy thing! I've read from many places and from all the top animators that 'if it's not working, don't be afraid to scrub it and start again' Now that's something that I just can't make myself do as yet... I'm sure it's the best way forward as I often find myself tweaking but not really liking it as a whole. Anyhoo... forgive the ramble, I'm not suggesting you start again! Just me going off on a tangent again!
Back to your anim... yep, your reasoning is sound too... I'm sure the facial expressions and lip sync will make it all come together and read well -

30 Jul 2006Holy Sh*t!!! I miss one night of checking SimplyCG.net, and look what i missed? Seriously awsome updats there Tyson.
Just downloaded the final anim, and boy, it's just awsom man, the camera movement really adds to it, and like Rich said, it does make you feel like sh*tting in your pans. Brilliant work man.
Please please when ever you've got time, could you give us a short breakdown of how you do you lighting? Every single time it's just spot on.
