OK Folks, it's my turn to announce the next challenge!
We're having another progressive challenge and this time it's going to be a wee bit more intense.
That is: Less time, harder topics and definately more fun to be had.
Over the next month we'll have four related VFX Challenges with each one lasting approximately a week.
The voting will start as the next challenge/topic is announced.
There will be all the normal 3 winning positions for each challenge and also an overall grand effects champion who comes out with the best overall score from all four!
Each week we will be covering one of the Elements. We are focusing primarily on VFX creation and simulation here and voting will be based on how well the effects are executed.
If you do the best character animation and modelling it will help sell your scene but wont help too much with the voting.
The topics are as follows:
Week 1: Fire - Your challenge is to create a vfx shot, any kind of vfx shot you like with the topic of fire.
Examples: Volcano + lava, forest fire, camp fire, house fire, gas stovetop, fireplace, cigarette, any kind of explosion, gunfire, minefield, spongebob on fire, candle flame, napalm e.t.c
Week 2: Air - Your challenge is to create a vfx shot, any kind of vfx shot you like covering the topic of air. (This one is a bit harder to come up with an idea so the topic is fairly open)
Examples: Anything to do with clouds, trees swaying in a breeze, storm, hurricane, spongebob flying, hair swaying in a breeze, tumbleweed, something else being rolled along the ground e.t.c
Week 3: Earth - Your challenge here is to create a vfx shot, any kind of vfx shot you like to do with the Element Earth.
Examples: Mudslide, Earthquake, quicksand, spongebob digging a hole, a seed sprouting under the ground, avalanche, a swamp, e.t.c
Week 4: Water - Your challenge is to create a vfx shot, any kind of vfx shot with the topic of water.
Examples: Tsunami, water dropping into glass with ripples and splash, twirling a glass of water, wave system, rain, ocean, flood, juice bottle being squeezed, spongebob squeezed, water freezing, precipitation, something splashing in the water e.t.c
Try to enter honestly and start work for each one on the start date for that topic.
Part of the challenge is to get used to short deadlines. I mean a week to create a vfx shot isnt long, especially if you have other stuff to do like work or school. So it will be a tough challenge!
Rules/Guidelines
- Less than 650 frames long.
- Final animation to be less than 10mb, preferably in quicktime format.
- Teams are allowed for this challenge, not compulsory but if you do think you might be short of time, why not buddy up with someone else?

(the PEVFX stands for Progressive Elemental Visual Effects)
Thats right, create a new thread for each stage.
- Plugins are allowed, as are standalone software. Use whatever means you have to make the shot as good as you want it. (That is short of ripping a scene out of a movie and declaring it yours

)
- That being said, you can composite your FX into stock footage or pre-existing video, as long as the primary focus once composited is on your work, and you identify what it is you have done and let us know what footage you will be using at the start and show us your progression to make sure its your work.
Good luck to all!
...... and the race starts NOW!
