21 Aug 2006ok, i wasn't gonna enter this one because of time, but it just so happens that one of the effects in my short movie sorta has to do with air.
its a girl putting on a cloak of invisibility.
here's the raw footage from on-set, and the 2d protion of it done. i'm just adding a little "Allan McKay" smoke mapped with a pic of the girl, and it's done.
(oh, there'll be some camera motion, too).

yeah, i guess i could do a tutorial on it. it'll have to wait until i meet the deadline for this thing, which is Sept. 1st, cuz i am slammed until then. so yeah, maybe sometime in Sept. it'll give me a chance to try out the free screen recorder i got! -

flashmasterfong 238 posts23 Aug 2006Actually, Its not that hard. I use premiere and was able to recreate the effect in minuntes. Just have 2 video clips, 1 with the person in it but the other with out the person in it. Then just overlap a little, and add a crossfade. If you wanna be really fancy you could go and add some particles using max of maya. -
24 Aug 2006FMF - thats the basics of it, of course, but i have a fractal noise luma matte dissolving out parts of the girl, and an animated roto that dissolves her from the outer edge inwards.
and particles are coming, hopefully tonight.

One thing really bugs me and it kinda kill your effect, there's a couple of little
flowers infront of the girl that disapear with her, if you can keep them it would really add to your effect. -

25 Aug 2006ar lutik, yeah, i know about the flowers. i'm on a SUPER tight deadline with this thing, though, so i opted to leave it for now. when it's edited into the movie and all the action is happening and there's camera shake and you only see the shot one time, it's not even close to noticable. but, yeah, if i have time, i will fix it. in fact, after i enter the contest, i may continue working on it in case i win or get chosen to be screened, and then it'll be fixed for that.

25 Aug 2006looks good man, you did a pretty decent match up there from what I could see. That stuff isn't the easiest thing to do in a short amount of time. my only crits on it are just the flowers that were already mentioned, and it might be nice to slow down the fade towards the end a bit to ease it out, maybe just a slight displace for a second or two on the grass so you see the light being bent before she goes completely invisible. I like the shot though man, no crazy camera move, just an effects driven effect.

25 Aug 2006it will have a bit of moving camera in the movie. it's in the middle of the main action sequence, and the camera's moving throughout the scene. i only locked it off to make the line-up as painless as possible, knowing i could easily add the camera move later.
but for my entry here, i'll leave the camera move out. -
