Progressive Challenge: FIRE VOTING TIME

21 Aug 2006The Fire stage of the Progressive challenge is over, time to vote ladies & gentlemen.
Remember to mainly vote on the fire aspect of these entries.
Normal voting rules apply, give ur fav entry a rating of 1-3. 1 being bestest, 3 being almost bestest but behind by 2.
eg:
1 - Capt'n Horndog why
2 - Sir Lancelot why
3 - Sponge Bob the Building Engine why
In the left hand corner we have:
GOUL with his tight lycra costume and his overtly flammable armpits!!
And standing in the right corner opposite we have:
AR LUTIK dressed in his savvy birthday suit weighing in at almost 9000 pounds!!
Leaning on his manager in the back left hand corner we have:
BEN COULBOURN with his tight lady jeans and his sweet sweet candeh also known around these parts as the iron fist of doom!!
Looking scared and considerably malnourished is TYSON sitting in the back right corner!!
And lying sprawled in the center of the ring we have:
CAMERON with his outlandishly sexy severed head and sixteen cats nailed to his chest by their tails!
Sitting in the crowd laughing with all the pageant winners is the emotionally instable and sexually confused HYPE!!

1.......GOUL....flat out the best realistic fire. great job
2...............AR LUTIK...............I love the lite on the wick. would like to have seen a boom but curling of the wick made up. well done.
3...............TYSON.......again a masterpeice with the lowman, Not a lot of fire but light on the flame was superb. loved it.

1- Gold to CAMERON since the vote is on the fire aspect, that explosion kicks ass, the flame at the end needs more work but the explosion rocks. The smoke of the missile is awesome, but the one of the explosion doesn't do the trick the way they disapear but in my book smoke ain't fire comes after. But Cam gets first place cause I can't beleive he pulled this out (of his top hat) the way that guy works.
2-Silver goes to TYSON and GOUL
Ok both of you did a great job on the flame movement, different aspect of gas flame, both of you forgot the blu of gas flame
, and I find your flames a bit to blurry, I burned my hair to many times as a kid getting to close. But both movement are great, Goul love your metal would love to use that shader, and T well the character animation is amazing like always, but it's kind like deja T , now change character give me a nice realistic character make my jaw fell like it use to when I saw your stuff, you've evolved I excpect more .
3- Bronze to BEN COULBOURN
Cool effect, way to noisy but cool. But the idea is the TOP, super orginal I love it.
I know a bit confusing, try typing with your feet while moving furniture in an other room

22 Aug 2006Well, I haven't really been keeping up with this. Just popped in to see the end results - but my my... we have some quality entries here!
1) Goul - Without doubt the most realistic. Would like to have seen a pler background and some smoke, but yay! That first pop as it comes to life is awesome!
2) Cam - great Ab work as always. Smoke on the rocket was awesome!
3) Tyson - Would lke to have seem some more flickery action on that there flame, but darn good nonetheless!
But all the others came pretty close too! Well done all. -
22 Aug 2006Hey everyone - awsome work here. I have'nt been up-to-date with what's everyone's been up to, but seriously well done guys, the work is awsome!
1 - Goul - I thought is was the best looking flame on the block. Good job
2 - Hype - awsome idea! Great one.
3 - Cam - the explotion at the end was great, good job! -

22 Aug 2006ok, here's mine.
1 - Goul - most realistic. love it, wish i could do it!
2 - Cam - Pretty sweet. there's a couple things i didn't like, though. in the beginning, when the camera's following the missle, after the camera pans to follow it, the trail has a weird white edge... and the explosion seems really flickery. but still amazing for a CG explosion!
3 - Ar Lutik - nice, really works, felt pretty real.
two things i'm shocked about:
1) that i didn't vote for Tyson (although, like everyone else, there's no disputing the character anim is astounding - but i tried to only judge actual fire elements and their interaction in the scene)
2) that anyone's voting for mine!
everyone did great work, though! very inspiring stuff! -

1. Goul - Best simulation, movement, shading...am really impressed, not only by the artist, but also by maya fluids
2. Tyson - other than hype i found the flame is interacting very well, the shading is great and it illuminates the scene top notch...and that all by knowing T is a nonsmoker
3. Cam - afterburn-power at it's best, what else to say...great! -

4 - TYSON cuz i just felt he deserved a place here for such a good animation, although the fire, being quite good, is nothing really spectacular -

2. Tyson - Nice work to you too, flame was awesome, had a few minor things twiggling me but still nice fire. I agree about the missing blue, but I have seen lighters without it so...
3.Gouleh - Cool work mate, hit me straight away as a scaling issue, the scale of the flame doesnt suit the scene, and the iterations of its turbulence dont match it either, otherwise great, top notch shader!
Nice work all, about time we tallied these puppies up! -
28 Aug 20061. Hype - very well done and convincing, there was even some glow on the back image which impressed me. basically you did what i hoped to do and then some, good job.
2. Ar Lutik - I really like how you used geometry based fire unlike the rest of us, way to think differently and it came out looking fantastic, cant wait to see all these clips put together!
3. Cam - great looking particles in the stills, but the animation left something to be desired. without a doubt best actual use of fire though, with more time i'm sure you could've polished it up a bit more.
P.S. tyson as much as i <3 your animations, this one lacked the pyromaniac-goodness i was expecting so you were not included in my decision, mwhahaha.
