here's my thoughts, i'm sure you're aware of most of them, since its a WIP...
the bird's motion is very linear. i'm sure you're changing that as i type this, though. wings could use some secondary motion.
the raindrops in the still look black. seems odd, but if this is your own world, then its fine.
is all that cool grass and foilage going to be in full motion, cuz that would be sweet! (but hard, no?) and here's something tricky - are the plants and grasses going to flick and bend when they get hit with raindrops?

18 Sep 2006thanks Hype...yeah I never boned anything in maya before so I hope I have time to fix up the big bird a bit. It is rainnig so, I didn't want it flickering around but yeah..... looks kinda dead.
All the grass and the trees are paint effects so yes it all moves . I got the clouds going to the left of the camera( Fluids), and the rain and grass going to the right. I stood outside last week and watched a storm come in and thats why i did thus. As for the rain hitting and moving the grass .no I don't have but. sweet Idea dude
The rain, hmmmm.....I agree with you But I don't how to fix cuz of the lighting, Iam going to look into that. Also I looked later in the animation and the rain not as dark as the stiil I posted......I'll take a look .

20 Sep 2006Looks like we got few extra days.....cool.
What I came up with...thus far...........
Heres what I dont like about this animation.........
1.camera work.........all of it......I need to work on that stuff soon.
2.bird wing flapping. (first time ever using bones in maya. (Hell Iam not that good in max anyhoot). That I can do a lot better at with more time (added at the last min).
3. Sound.....tyson, I think you once said you were going to do a tut on putting qualty sound to animation, software,mixing.etc. That I would like.
theres a lot more but Iam tierd need sleep bad.........
Iam sure you guys have a lot more then me.feel free I do want to try and improve what I can.

20 Sep 2006hey man! that's looking awesome.
i agree with you that the bird could use a little work. the wings seem like they need a bit more secondary motion, and the body of the bird should be moving up and down instead of in a perfectly straight line.
when the wings go up, the body should sink a bit, and when the go down the body should move up. -
20 Sep 2006Great stuff man! The only thing that bothers me is that the clouds in the background is flying to screen left, while the rain is flying in to the right - as the wind is blowing the clouds to screen left, the rain should also come flying in from the left at a very steep angle i might add because of the force the wind is going at (clouds move very fast).
It would be great if you could also do a bit more work on the bird anim.
But great idea, good work!

21 Sep 2006he already noted in an earlier post that he observed in an actual storm the clouds moving in one direction and the rain falling in another.

21 Sep 2006Ahh - he did as well. I cant imagine this happeing unless your in a sheltered place, such as in a street corridor, or by a big building, as the wind/rain gets deflected by the buildings, and causing the rain to go the other way. But by seeing that the scene was in field, i myself dont think it will happen this way - just my two cents.

21 Sep 2006Thanks guys......well I changed the fluids for the clouds (moving w/rain).
more light to rain drops. Added lights and fluid hase to ocean in background.(now you can see it).....it's fluids so it moves. Worked on key framming birds flight, his head moves, body opposite of wings,Got rid of camera, replaced.
I liked the darkness of the first one but we'll see how the render comes out tomarrow. Thanks for your help.
