11 Sep 2005Got my entry done!
I actually left Camtasia running in the background on my computer while I was making this......so I have a 3 hour long video detailing the entire process
...sadly it's too big to put online (about 100 megs when compressed.....I got it down to 17mb with DivX, but the quality was pretty bad)
Anywho.....the idea behind mine is "Why a mime should never play in the street". Hope you like! As I mentioned, it took almost exactly 3 hours to animate from start to finish....and was made using the lovely lowmax rig
By the way....if you don't watch it with sound it won't make too much sense!

12 Sep 2005Heh - that's cool! Just putting some texture on Lowmax like that really makes a difference
A really original idea. I like the blood on the camera, it reminds me of some anim tests I did way back (I may have it backed up on CD if you're interested)
The only crit I have is at the end his right hand seems a little too stiff and is evidently IK as it doesn't move with his body (but then... he's a mime artist, that's what they do right? hehe)
PS - I too would like to see the making of... and what is this Camtasia I keep hearing about? Is it freeware? -
12 Sep 2005Small crit: At the end he's looking right at the car, you should have his eyes open up really wide before he gets hit, it would add a bit more to it.

12 Sep 2005Hey Global....I'm not sure if we're talking about the same thing....but his right hand is leaning on his skateboard at the end, so I made it a bit "stiffer"

12 Sep 2005I meant to ask you.. do you animate your camera by hand? Or do you have some sort of expression, or whatever max offers? An another thing, how did you make the blood splatter? In max? Or another program??

12 Sep 2005Hey man.....90% of the camera is hand-animated.....the extra bit of wobble and jiggle you see (very subtle) is done using Global's Noise Controller tutorials (ie....using procedural noise expressions to modify rotation keys)
The blood splatter was done in max....nothing special at all to it....just a particle system (made of round particles) that sprays towards the camera and sticks to a deflector that is positioned right in front of the camera. -

I don't think at this point I'm going to upload the video.....it's just too darned big!
Next time I do a short animation I'll try to plan it better so that the "making of" video is hundreds of megs
The character is rigged using bones. Note that I didn't make this character/rig....it's just a textured version of the lowmax rig
