alright, i'm going to model a wee bender figurine. being a big futurama fan this seemed the way to go. i'm not going to base it (at least directly) on an existing toy, i'm gonna try to come up with something original yet classically bender.
starting the modelling tonight so hopefully tonight or tomorrow i'll have some progress stills.

thanks lads. i'm going to refine the shape of his... uhh... eye-shell and i'm looking to rough out the whole model tonight, so i can start refining and playing with materials and stuff. so i'm gonna have aother update this evening.

i know it isn't much progress but unfortunately it is all i had time for tonight.
i'm thinking of using a biped to pose him. anywya, until tomorrow, c&c welcome (and needed).

The only thing that comes to mind is doing the legs same as arms, just lines not indents on the segments.

Ok. One thing can say is that according to reference there is wrong scale in some parts like foots radius and arms length. Nothing else.

hey lads, thanks for the directive comments. i've already changed the footsize/shape a bit. actually the arms and legs are done the same way. the way the default light is hitting them is giving them diferent appearances. and i'm also going to change that. so thanks.
my idea as is right now is to create my bender like a little glass figurine, you know that you see at old ladies houses of like balerinas or angels or princesses? i want to do something like that only... bender.
tonight unfortunately i have nothing to show you, helping my girlfriend study for her exam this evening.
thanks again. planning on doing a bunch of work this weekend so i'll have lots to show yall over the next couple days.

Hey man, be good to see that Bender. Benders GREAT!! Good choice of model ^_^

hey yall. been on a bit of a hiatus. work and school keep me intensely busy. anyway, spending a few minutes each day over the weekend i managed to rig bender and come up with a short little anim (
http://lucideaproductions.com/short/renderbender.mov.) to demonstrate it. it is really brutal, the movements are robotic (even for bender) and the inflexibility of his torso makes it difficult to keep a fluidity in his actions. it could use a lot of refinement.
so, gimme all the c&c you got. i know it is really terrible. actually, this bender model is the first i've finished. this is the first time i've ever rigged (so i just had to test it out). and this is the first time attemting to animate a character at all.
lol, as i said, i'm a real noob. i meant it. anyway, this just means i need everyone to be as brutally honest as possible.
so next on my to do list is make a little stand for him, pose him, figure out the scene, and come up with some materials i like that will fit what i'm looking to achieve.
tomorrow i'll have some of that to post for sure. thanks lads!
check the anim here:

i just realized that a few posts back i described the type of product i'm promoting right now but didn't offer any visuals.
this is sort of the kind of thing i meant when i talked about those little glass figurines, our mom's and grandmothers (and maybe secretly some of us) collect.

eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeekkkk
well, it looks like it is going to be down to the wire for me. i'm away all weekend and won't have access to my computer. i have a quiz test on monday for school as well and i work all day.
so i'm reeeaalllyyy hoping i'll have a little free time to whip something up sunday/monday nights...
anywya, haven't had any time really. here is a real quick glass test (there are gona be bottles in the scene) i'm using vray and i am having a little trouble getting saturated colours (like the rich brown orgreen beer bottles are).
any suggestions?

David Holy 302 posts
Sorry no suggestions, because i am new to vray. But you show some skill using thsi renderer Thumps up

thanks dave, here are a couple other vray tests. same problem here. the caustics are ok i think but i can't seem to get that saturated colour in the glass.
making the fog colour rich seems to make the glass almost black, i can't find that happy medium.

any suggestions on the dark/rich/saturated-glass look?

AS mentioned above: No. But why do you use so much amount of time for thaht? Use that to improve your entry

yeah, well i was asking if anyone else had anything to throw at me. but you're right, too, i do have a bit of an issue with letting things i can't figure out go.
i want to solve the problem before moving on. anyway, i can't do anything more till tomorrow night when i'll have access to my computer again.
