My first post here! WOOO!
I am Murphy (coreyJAvitar from CGTalk)

Hey sorry mods if I am posting in the wrong forum, my whole project isn't finished, but I have some finished animations, so do with me what you will!

anyway, I am working on a short film, and I posted my progress at cgtalk, but didn't get much feedback at all, so I was hoping people could give me some feedback here!

Please let me know what you think!

Hey everyone!
I just started this short, came up with the idea last night.
So the story starts out with a sheep named patrick quietly muching on his grass and walking. I'll put up some more stuff later, But here I have an animation of Patrick leaping along. Mostly just a test.
I drew Patrick in illustrator, and then colored him in photoshop, then put them into max as splines and meshes, then rigged him up and animated him.
So it's 2d, but animated in Max. In the end I hope to have the 2d character in a 3d environment.

I just rendered out the anim with an alpha, and composited it onto a Photoshop backplate with After Effects.

Welcome to the forums Murphy. And a nice opening / introductory thread too

I do like the way you've approached it. The 2D style anim using 3D apps looks nice. One thing to watch though, is that 2D in 3D generally suits really snappy / catoony animation to really bring it to life. The jump is quite nice, but I'd push it some more and have less of a transition from the down to the airborne position. Again, with the munch munch anim, you could do with really snapping each step as it looks a little linear and lifeless right now.

Just as a pointer on the 2D in 3D thing, our resident guru made this

As for Murphy...welcome bro! Nice to see someone else attempting 2d stuff in 3d. I agree with global about the snappiness though....when it comes to 2d animation, you always want everything to be totally exaggerated.
