GI needs fixing (or radiosity for max i guess) and the background is really flat, and that white stuff on the trim looks really weird. But the rest of the scene is pretty sexy.

I wish I could do that..

nice scene, zachm...especially like the pillows, great modelling...
you need to work on the background, though...
the sun is definately shining and in this case pictures from inside always seem to overburn the sky outside...it seems to be almost white with blueish lights...
did a little fast drawover, hope you don't mind, to show what i mean
other than that great

mahmoudnahmad: I modeled it in maya and rendered it using mental ray.
Troubador, thanks for the viz man, That was exactly what I thought when I looked it over some more.
I made some changes to it here and this is where it's at right now.

I have no real critiques except for the window. The trim around the outside of the windows just looks like paint around the edges, and by that I mean it loooks really flat. I can't see anyglass, theres not a whole lot of light coming through. Also I still think the window would be blown out more, just check pictures or other arch viz renders to see what they did for sunny days.

Yeah, I know how to do it in post, but I am trying to figure out how to do the whole edge bleed thing in maya. It's a bit frustrating because the shader networks for Mental ray can get a bit convoluted. Did I say that? I meant intuitive.

i like that, i would just make the pillows a bit flufyer, they look very solid right now...
one thing that i hate about rooms is that they can't look to empty, and if they are too full, they don't look realistic anymore...

the lighting in the room doesnt match the lighting in the picture outside. just my 2 cents

Really nice job man.
All of comments above + It seems that shadows need to be a bit more sharper and that stuff in the center of room looks very dark and flat.

I really like the wooden floor - how did you get the effect of it being blurred?
I agree with the lighting of the outside not matching the inside - but its just a tad bit off.

Ok, I am considering this one done and moving on. I might get a wild hair later on and play around with it some more, but I have a couple more rooms to render, and I want to give those some attention. So to feed the hungry children, here you go.
C&C always welcome.

holy guacamole, this is much metter now. one thing though, behind the lamp and the couch you have some wierd skyblue reflections... is that normal? and boost up the quality of your shodows, because they are really noisy right now which spoils the picture. aslo, how are the blue and yellow things are ballanced? congrat on the lamp material. try adding a slight reflection on the windows. as for the floor, i would make it a little less blurry and a little less reflective... as for the screen capture, lol i love the antialiasing you have there.
thats all for me, i hope it helps.

Very nice interior but in each scene the outside just bugs me, the floor not on the last one but the one before I just love.

Wow, much better now.
just if you reduce the noise in shadows, it would be better.
-
troubadour 207 posts
now thats an improvement
i think the noise in shadows and reflections are just because this is just pimping
your overall skillz and not having the time for a wellsampled and great final render...
so that beside all i would change is to give some circular brushed anisotropic bump to the foot of the lamp...
well done, zach

that last one's MUCh better as far as lighting goes.

i think it looks amazing! my only critque would be the grainy-ness of the shadows, but its kind of a minor thing. great work!

Thanks for all the comments guys, Yeah, the noise is from my samples not being turned all the way up. I need my computer for other stuff right now, but sometime this weekend when I can walk away from it for a while, I plan on doing another render or two with the settings turned up for a final image.
p.s. here's another quick one I did today.

wow, great! if you're still using the lower samples, this room hides it better!

i really like that lamp... can you eat it?

kind of a bit late really, but I had a second before I went to bed last night, so I cranked up the sampling to be all that it could be, thought this one deserved a proper render. Though it took a while to render...

Wow zach great work! Everything look superb.....the only thing I'd recommend would be to increase the intensity/brightness of the outside image behind the window. The extremely white floor under the window doesn't quite match up with the more muted background image.
That, and I see some nose goblins under the one chair....
-
BColbourn 2,323 posts
that 2nd scene looks great, the only part that doesnt look real is the chairs. looks like they should be laminated wood or metal, not jsut a dull plastic.
ps: that last pic of the first scene looks gorgeous, you hav the lighting dead-on.

Thanks for the comments guys, I will definitely make those changes
