Updated Ladybug Animation

13 Aug 2005Hey everyone....I was going to append this to my old ladybug thread...but then I figured that since this can pretty much stand on its own, it would be better to start afresh
Anyways, over the past 2 days I've been working on shot 2 of the ladybug fall animation. Special thanks to Danny Robashkin once again for helping me with some compositing stuff! Although this shot almost sets up the ladybug scene for a whole storyline or whatever, this is the last time I'll be going back to the ladybug at this point.
Standard scanline renderer as usual.

13 Aug 2005hahaha that is so cool. Now that you have it so the wings can open, can you have them flap a bit as he's falling off the leaf?
Also, it seems a tad strange where the wings bend opposite ways just before the end.
I love these little short anims of yours mate. Keep at em. I can see you one day doing a boring3d.com idea with animations -

the first animation i thought was great, and now youve made it even better!
^_^ seriously nice work man, I like the reflective surface on the ladybugs outer shell, it really adds intergration of the character to the enviroment. I giggled like a little school girl when i saw the chute.
all around good work man. thumbs up over here. -

14 Aug 2005Very very nicely done! What did it for me was the wonderful camera pull out to reveal the canopy of trees - man that must have taken a while to sort out and get right! It looks awesome and just goes to show that the default scanline really does give nice results in the right hands.
Great motion on the parachute. Was that all done with deformers?
Any chance of having the two shots put together?

1) The parachue was animated using reactor cloth
2) No...the two shots won't be put together
3) The trees/canopy are a mix of projected textures and post volumetrics added in AfterFX
A raw render of the scene looks extremely crappy actually....but once you add the post glow and volume light etc, it starts looking good

15 Aug 2005T your lady bug is awesome
the new leaf is a bit to stiff should shake less lower your noise if it's what you use.
The shot where it falls, is incredible the feel of your camera is so good, and the few branch and leaf passing on the side add up so much to the camera.

27 Aug 2005ivan the work is quite amazing id like to ask about how u are doing the volumetrics seeing as how u work in a fx company it must give u easy access to those after fx plugins ..because i dont think u can achieve that effect in after fx by default.
