02 Sep 2006ok, i wasn't gonna post this for a little bit, but i don't want you guys to think i'm all-talk-and-no-CG.
I had to rush to finish it to make the contest deadline, but there's a whole list of things i'm going to go back and fix. this is what i've been working on for the past month.
anyway, here. it's a .WMV file, 4:35 mins, based on the old D&D cartoon from the 80's. it should play fine, even full screen.

things i intend to fix:
opening shot needs stabilized.
axe animations - horrible.
rock could be better.
may tweak sound one more time to better suit DVD viewing, but for internet its fine.
need to do a few paint touch ups on the orc.
compositing and lighting of most CG things could be better.
i literally spent one night doing each effect - i.e., one night (4 hours) for all axe shots, one night for all bow shots, 2 nights for sheila vanishing (2d and particles)... because of the contest deadline i just wanted to make sure i had something for every shot, then i was going to go back and fix to make look perfect.
ok, enough excuses, go watch it.
i'm gonna bug you all again on the 15th to go vote for it if you think it's the best in the contest. -

02 Sep 2006It's really not bad at all considering the time you spent on it so far. I wasn't entirely captured by the story, but the effects all looked good. My only real suggestion or question actually is if you are going to CC it when you are all done with effects and what not.????? I especially liked the axe stuff, even if it was a bit off, that made me grin.

g3org3 355 posts04 Sep 2006I really liked it. I have one crit, and that is at the cut at around the 2:20 min mark its weird. The girl is on the right side of the screen, then the next cut after that shes on the left. A general rule of thumb that the camera can only move about 180 degrees on the one side of the characters to keep the audiance from being confused.

06 Sep 2006Nice one man! Glad you finished it all in time. I really enjoyed it, and thought you did a very good job on everyhting. Like i said earlier, the bit when the actress puts her hood up and goes invisible is just awsome! Great great great job. The orc character also rules, glad to see him finally in action.
Yeah nice one - dont think i have any crits at all man, i really enjoyed watching that. Good job!

28 Sep 2006sorry to bump this back up again. my silly little movie is being included on the extra features of the DVD set coming out in a few months.
(this is what was killing me last week on the "earth" challenge! trying to finish fixes on the short while working overtime 7 days a week, and still wanting to get the challenge done! i still have a headache from not sleeping!)

I"ll have to check it out when I get my hands on a copy, and brag to all the kids on my block and say, I know that guy that made that one from online and I talked to him one time on the computer one time. But really, that's awesome. And dude, get some sleep. You're making the rest of us look like pansies.

and sleep sucks! there's a water challenge i gotta win going on! how am i supposed to sleep?!
(i'm also digitally repairing some alternate footage for these guys doing the dvd set, which is a drag and aggravating, but it's nice to be able to be part of something i grew up with [since i missed my shot to do effects for a star wars movie!]. but the deadline for the repairing is friday, so THEN i will finally have nothing to do except water!! and i can't wait!) -

flashmasterfong 238 posts21 Jan 2007It was okay. Visual effects looked alright. The only thing that bothered me was the sound. The music and the background abeience is too loud. It's hard to pick out what the actors are saying sometimes. Another thing was the actors acting. Like when he holds the bow up to the orcs face and was going to shoot him, the girl was just kinda standing there as if she didnt care saying "No dont do it." Visual effects should be the last thing on your list. -
21 Jan 2007if you clicked the link at the beginning of this thread, sorry! that one's really outdated! i actually did a reshoot, cuz i agree, she was kinda dead there at the end. it's still not perfect, but it's better now, and it was a learning experience. this version linked here (which I will be removing) is all wrong. wrong color correction, wrong opening shots, bad sound, pre-reshoot, all kinds of things.
