19 Sep 2006Hi ... I'm new here and also trying to expand my appreciation for 3D animation. Thanks for the opportunity to get some critique on my work. Good, bad or indifferent would be most appreciated as I try to reach the levels of some of you talented people.
Here's my first one ... kind of a production company opener for, well ... my company.

21 Sep 2006I liked it. Was a bit weird, it looked like the hand had control of the hat instead of chasing it. Loved the explosion, definately wasnt expecting it... but hats dont blow up into hard chunks do they? Anyhow, nice work.

That's a great way to learn! keep completing projects, and don't set the bar too high. That's my problem, is I always start projects, and in my my they are amazing looking, and then when I don't get it easily, I give up.
Dont be like me!
Keep doing small projects and building up your skills.
Check out some animation tuts, and try some animations just with very simple objects, hands are very complicated, and can be hard to get feeling into, try making life out of something like a milk carton!

21 Sep 2006I appreciate all the advice and comments given over the work. This challenges me to keep working on things better and with more detail.
I agree with you ... I use to plan on far reach projects and big ideas ... and the next thing you know ... nothing is getting done because i get frustrated. Then one day, someone else sent me a link to Tyson's webpage and I was floored. I was like, "What the hell am I doing if Tyson is putting out quick projects like that with such detail."
I even wrote him an email and thanked him for the inspiration. So I started on a new trek to just work on smaller things, step by step and learning those small things on the way. Heck, I know more about 'Reactor' now than I did a month ago all because I'm struggling (even as we speak) with making a model car move across the screen using 'Toy Car' .... my damn mesh keeps getting errors. But that's a question for another part of the forum.
My point is, you and I were in the same boat and I feel you ... but now is a great time to just start fresh and say, 'babysteps'. This hat chase is compiled of three babysteps that at least pushed this out ... I got your comments and critiques ... and later on I'm going to tweak it based on what i didn't know until you guys were kind enough to inform me.
That is how we get to be another 'Tyson' ... and I'm DYING to get to that level quick, fast and in a hurry ... but we all know that won't happen that way.
