3dsmax8 and mentalray + photoshop for color correction and Z

27 Oct 2006This is a pretty cool concept man! Reminds me of a bull towards the end of a bullfight, except alot happier.
My only crits (if you don't mind.) are that the uv's need to be actually laid out rather than a flat projection from the side, give both sides some attention and break up the mirroring in your uv map. You can see the stretching across the top of the body, and I think it detracts from the overall appearance. And I would make the knocks in the pectoral fins a bit different per side.
But really these are just picky artistic opinion crits. Other than those little things, I think this peice is great! Super cool character, and I would love to see it animated as well!

28 Oct 2006Looks pretty damn sweet! I especially love the shader + bumps, looks pretty insane (in a good way!)
Composition is good too. Love the big smile while he has all the swords in his back. Overall a very good piece.
How did you do the Z in photoshop? Render out an Z-buffer and use it like an alpha channel in PS? -
28 Oct 2006Neejoh - Z in ps is very easy...just paste the Z renders in the alpha channel...tahn use the Lens Blur in the final composition and he will ask you from where you wish to use the reference for Blur...then you show him the alpha channel an put your focur where you want...
thanks for comments about the bumps and colors, and every thing...i think the Uvs is very poor too...i just pick the file and re render ir...i need to be less lazy...hehehe...this is a very old file...2003...i just rig it up and remake the light pose and render...but when i animate him i?ll take the uvs one level up
