since i normaly do other stuff than char_animation but you guys impressed me this much, i thought to try it first time...
it began with a walk cycle but then i remembered that i forgot a friends birthday...so it came out this way...
it's all really basic but was fun to do...it's all about practise, isn't it

where do you guys get your sounds from when doing this kind of stuff?

28 Sep 2005haha, you're first anim is already better than all that I've done
Good work mate... Seems a bit weird that he power walks it to the computer but yeah, if you started out doing a walk cycle that could explain it.

28 Sep 2005Wow man...for your first character animation it's great! You're clearly a natural.
It's still pretty rough though so here are some general tips when it comes to characters:
-watch those moving holds. Right at the end he just kinda freezes....gotta remember that a character NEVER stops moving completely
-on that note....your character should be VERY subtley swaying back and forth when he stands (as people do)....maybe have him shift his weight from his left to his right foot (and vise verse) once in a while
-when he transitions from walking to standing his feet kinda slide/jerk over the ground a bit....try to smooth that out
Overall I'm VERY impressed by it (if it is truly your first character animation). You show a lot of potential! -

thanks so much guys, didn't expect such warm comments...
it truly is my first char anim, did some posing of modelled chars bevor but thats all...
about the moving holds, i've tried it but the actual anim right out of max was to short for the birthday sound which i found to late. i added the sound in premiere and had to export the last frame as a still to stretch the anim to the sounds duration. thats the reason why hes not moving at the end...
but great tips, tyson...hope to find the time to put them into an update...

olli96 30 posts28 Sep 2005looks great ! awesome job for your first animation. CAT Rigs are great too
the walk cycle could show a bit more weight shifting but still a great job...

your right, i found this great rig some weeks ago on cgtalk. but its not CAT, it's made by Brad Noble. made some skinning with a char i made and realized, that this rig is really slow when skinned to a char for posing(might be my slow mashine, though), so i forget about it...
but without beeing skinned to a char, it works like a charm which i found out yesterday...

olli96 30 posts28 Sep 2005yeah, i know that rig from brad noble, its quite nice. it looked like a typically CAT rig I also like the lowman Rig from Peter Starostin, it got some nice facial controls as well. i was making a rig too, but i had too many other things to do, i might load that file agian and finish it. here is a preview:

did an update...not much on the char-anim, just minor corrections there, but changed the end playing with some spacewarps...
with a little inspiration from camerons "worst accs" entry,... thx for that, hehe
