Promo stuff

30 Sep 2005I've spent today working on some stuff for a promo we're doing here at MAKE, which could potentially land us a rather nice gig with a department store.
Anyways...without getting too far into the whos, whats and whys...here's my current progress on one of the products going to be featured in the promo (there will be 4 in total...I'm in charge of a 10-second segment featuring one of the them).
I'll post more updates of my progress when I can

30 Sep 2005Btw....no texture on the "ring case" yet....so don't worry
...just look at the actual ring (which is finished, as you can see)
Renderer is VRay...and the rendertime is about 30 seconds. -

30 Sep 2005very nice. i love the material u have on the diamond. i love the update im just curious as to how realistic it would look into a composited environment is that your next step?

Meh....it's doesn't look like much up-close (ie...you start to see all the problems etc),
The diamond was given that faceted look by using a combination of the Optimize and Smooth modifiers. -

Please understand that there are MANY things I would have liked to do differently and to have fixed etc etc....but time simply didn't permit it.
From start to finish everything you see here was made in approx. 1 day. That includes rendering and all of the test shots/renders I did as well. Very short timeline if you know what I'm saying! -

02 Oct 2005thats amazing work tyson. i lov ethe materials and particle effects how did u do the seamless transition from the render to the insides of the box ? i love how advertisers do seamless transitions like that.

02 Oct 2005The transition was done by rendering out a frame of the animation and then projecting that onto the inside of the wrapping. Then the 2 shots (the cave shot and the present shot) were rendered separately and blended together in After Fx.
It's far from seamless.....but I think it worked out okay... -
