My first Demo Reel

07 Mar 2007hey guys been really buisy so I havent been around here much lately very much not fun for me I miss you guys!!!
anyway got my frist demo reel together that im sending out for some interships I still have around a year befor I graduate so I have time for improvement but this is what i got for now let me know what you think.

First thing that caught my eye off the bat, is that your first shot in your "animation" section, really doesn't have much animation in it!
....might want to put that shot elsewhere.
The rest of your stuff is pretty nice. Some of the shots looks like they could use some tweaking....and some of the other shots don't really look like they belong in the animation section at all (the rockets hitting the ground, the mouse with a cape--not much animation going on there, just a cloth sim).
I really like the gameboy shots though....haha the "Tetris" wall collapse is brilliant!
Personally I'd also take out the modelling section....the models aren't that sophisticated, and in my opinion they bring your reel down a bit.
Anywho...nice stuff! Good luck with the job hunt

07 Mar 2007I agree with most of what Tyson is saying, and would like to add that the modeling stuff makes your reel a bit too long. I think that if you kept all the shots that are really dynamic, and took out most of the big, sweeping camera move ones, you'd have a solid reel that would most likely get you a job no problem.

your right about the animation section i think the title of the thing should be changed im general. the reel i think is more an enviro reel than anything

RWilson 199 posts10 Mar 2007what the other guys have mentioned i picked up on as well. Though, i would have to say the biggest thing that jumped out at me in the reel was way too much camera movement.
by no means is camera movement bad but it seemed a vast majority of your shots had a little too overly dynamic camera moves. If you toned some of them back I think the finished result would be better.
other than that its lookin good. Loved the tetris animation -
10 Mar 2007i like alot of it, but it is far too long. look at your best pieces from that reel and use those. there are a few animations that could be done away with. i dont want to sound so blunt but its true

11 Mar 2007ridestowe dont worry about being blunt you could honestly tell me you hate it and it all needs to be re-done (it does) i would take no offence.
the istructors at my school constantly tell us that you need to have one thing you do as a main ... modeler, rigging, animator.... and so on and i know for big studios that is more true. As of now i dont know what area i like better. i know what im better at but im not sure if thats what i want
do you guys have any suggestions for me on that basis

and dont worry you cant be too harsh, i have 9 months left in school the thing will be completely overhauld with new "good" work by then for now im learning what i need and just working tward interning.
