April: NURBS Modelling

01 May 2007this is my final project for this month for Model Creation class. modeled in about 20 hours, completely in NURBS in Maya.
everything is trimmed, and legal in terms of lines and such. This month has been very interesting (although boring at times) and I've learned al ot abouit nurbs (I mean ALOT). crits/comments welcome as always. -

01 May 2007nurbs are the devil to me. But you seem to have a good handle on them
good job man, they seem just a little bit dense to be honest, but nurbs are nurbs, and it won't make a ton of difference. The important thing is that you understand the principles, which you seem to. Great work.

01 May 2007I agree with superzach, nurbs are the devil to me they completely useless but as zach said it seems you understand them and have the control.

Claymation 600 posts01 May 2007I also agree, that looks great and it seems you've got a good handle on nurbs. But I bet you could do that in a fraction of the time in poly's. I absolutely hate nurbs and only use them when I have no choice. -
02 May 2007yeah lol i dont plan on really using nurbs any time soon in the future
this class we were only allowed to use nurbs. and the mesh on them seems so dense is because i put the detail up alot for the screens, i could turn it down in 1 click, just a matter of tesselation. -
TheOnlyAaron 188 posts02 May 2007I know nurbs seem obsolete, but i actually 'know a guy' who got a job using them. Actually he posts around here sometimes, Adam Kehoe's the name.
Now don't get me wrong, i despise nubs, and think a poly could beat a nurb hands down in the ring, but people actually use them to this day. -

I actually really like NURBS, but I can never ever get my head around them, you can make some really cool shapes with just a few mouse clicks. Looks like you've got you're head around them pretty well Ridey! -
