Space Shuttle for Feature Film

Hi all!

Earlier on in the year I finished 65 VFX shots for a friend's feature film; the film, entitled "Impact Day" is a one-hour spoof of films like "Armageddon" and "Deep Impact" but with a British twist, and made for absolutely no budget whatsoever!

There is a reel available of some of my work on the film, but I'm currently re-working a number of shots for the DVD version using tips I've picked up from generous people like Stu at the Rebel Caf?. It's on YouTube if you want to track it down...

However the reason I'm posting here is to show off my Space Shuttle model, which I built from scratch in Maya and textured in Photoshop. There were two shuttles in the film, an American version (the Intrepid) and this one, the Foolhardy, "borrowed" by our British heroes to thwart the meteor heading for the West Midlands. I textured it so it would look dirty, and added a few dinks here and there. I imagined it was the Enterprise, which never made it into space, until now!

This first image I'm particularly proud of because it shows the launch pad (a view you never actually see in the film itself). While not very photoreal, I think it looks like a physical model. Note the long ladder on the far side - I didn't have the time to model anything approaching the , and as it's a comedy, we thought it would be funny to have this ridiculous ladder instead!

As I said, these are the effects the film premiered with. I'm steadily improving many of them for the DVD release.

wow that does look sweet!!!!

I like it. Its good to see how the final video was made. My only comment would be the birds looked lifeless or maybe too small to see on youtube.

Raytracer - I agree with you about the birds. I thought at the time it was both a bit of a clich? and that they looked a bit crap. But that's my rubbish organic modelling and animating to blame there I'll be improving that shot for the DVD for sure!
