Catharsis - an animated short

Zabiegly 2 posts02 Sep 2007The final shortanimation I did for my MA 3d Digital Animation programme at the University of Hertfordshire.
It plays on the oppositions of good/evil and manmad/nature and also has some dystopian elements and cool visuals and soundtrack featuring a timelapse scene of a growing plant and a collapsing room.

The short was created by me, Matthias Zabiegly. James Lee Burstein did all the music and soundeffects. And yes, we are both currently looking for a job.

The thing that jumped out to me is when the light first shines through the broken wall it seems to just be like BAM THERE'S SOME LIGHT. Not that I've ever witnessed a wall cracking followed by a beam of light, it might look 100% real, but it just jumped out as unnatural.
Everything else is really cool. The bud of the flower opening up was the most appealing part I'd say. -

03 Sep 2007wow! I was genuinely impressed by that! very nice work mate. the only thing that struck me as odd was the lack of shadowing coming from the concrete particles. other than that it looked fantastic, great sense of timing and awesome idea, does a great job of telling a story.
