Hey guys, I've been waiting to post this one for some time now, It was the first job I worked on when I got out to CA, and it has been finished for like four or five months, I just haven't been able to post it until now. Its an ad for Farmers insurance, and it's cheesey, but fun.

AWESOME.
What did you work on specifically? And how do you like CA and CafeFX so far?

Holy awesome dude!
Would love to hear a breakdown of what you worked on.
And great acting skills! Didn't know you could drive a car like that

Great looking piece. Only thing I'm not keen on is the explosion at the end as it looks very CG. But the rest of the visuals and the overall editing and look are very professional.

Thanks guys for all the nice comments! It was done at CafeFX. I'm hoping to have a breakdown here in a week or two with some nice before and afters for the children.

In the meantime I can give you a verbal breakdown, I was responsible for matchmoves, modelling, texturing, lighting, and some roto. The deadline was pretty relaxed compared to what I am used to, so I actually felt like I had some time to crank out some quality stuff.

Awsome work Zach, i'd love to see how much is CG and live action, is the exterior shot of the car 3d? Can't wait to see a little breakdown.

Aaaaaah sweet! This is cooler than that TVshow from back in the day !
The explosion in the end could use a little more work, but the rest looks soo damn awesome. Great job.

So it's been a while, and my life is in a bit of upheaval, and so I needed to take some time to myself, and finally put together a quick set of breakdowns for my own sanity, and demo reel. I've been meaning to set this one up for a while, and just haven't had the time to do it. Basically, what we have here, is after and before's of the shots that I had the most hand in. Everything is pretty much self explanatory, and I've included a frame count, so you can open up two quicktimes and see the before and afters at the same frame. Sorry for taking so long guys.

You can either view or download it here:

wow this looks awsome! which car is that? loved it... btw is that the set? why do there is no ppl in the streets?

Ha ha, yeah Howitzer, that's Edward James Olmos. As far as I know, this commercial aired in South America, and he's a fairly big celebrity there, so go figure. lol.
And Jigu, I have no idea what the name of the car is, it was a prototype car though, some guy built it in his garage rather than a larger company. It broke down halfway through the shoot and they had to push it for some of the shots and then remove the people pushing it. As far as the set goes, in LA, it's not uncommon for a studio to pay all the businesses for a permit to block off all the streets for a shoot. In fact, many street level businesses make pretty decent money when that happens. That being said, it's weird to see parts of downtown LA without people or traffic.

overall very nice. One thing that really bothered me was the bullet hits on the door as the man was entering the building. They weren't tracked, so they just floated in frame, not in space. They also didnt leave any hit holes/marks and the tracer fire was kind of weak as well. Just some nit picking, overall fantastic shot.
