quick question though, how did you go about animating the mouths?
I have very,very little animation experience (student) so it would be helpful to know maybe a wireframe of the boxes (just so i can see the structure around the mouth)

I love the look on the dudes face at the end. Completely bewildered. I like the eyes throughout too man. Its pretty hilarious what you can achieve with just some simple box dudes.

Can you tell me how did you animate the mouth? Is this a animation you made in AF, and then just use that animation for your characters within diffuse and bump material? Or something else? -
21 Dec 2007Yes...that's finished The rules of the challenge state that the audio file may not be edited.
As for the mouths, they're just extruded splines in max that I edited the control points for to create the mouth animation -

I noticed that the pic of santa in the BG MOTION BLURS LIKE CRAZY when the blue dude comes in... just curious how that would happen if everything was rendered in passes? Just a very minor picky technical issue thing I saw...
But I love the subtle gestures they make, as always with your animations! It really sells it! -
22 Dec 2007Hey mate, yea that's the AE motion blur at work...sometimes you'll get artifacts like that with really fast motion....I guess I could have masked that out but I was lazy

how did u maintain arcshape of the hands ? splineIK? -
22 Dec 2007Nope...the arms were very simple
They're composed of splines with only 3 points. A shoulder point, a wrist point, and an elbow point. Once a skin modifier is applies to the arms, they bend naturally because the elbow point's interpolation is set to "Smooth". -
