Modeling an external Hard Drive

21 Dec 2005Here the finished model of an external harddrive. its the first Render, and i hope to improve it.
It took four days to model. Now you will ask 4 DAYS? If you would know Booelan in 3D Studio Max, and if i would tell you that the mesh is really clean for maxboolean standards you would understand.
(almost 3 days fixing problems with boolean and chamferproblems)

21 Dec 2005Thx for the critics. In the meantime our photoshop genius made the boxdesign (its a commercial commission, i forget to mention that
i reworked also the materials a bit!

i should call the image "Battle against Boolean... owned", at least almost, there are some vertics i cant weld together and you see in the circle a really ugly boolean cut. But at least, i know two things:
Never Boolean again... and
Never Boolean again -
21 Dec 2005yes, something I have to use Boolean, but I try to avoid them
For the part with a lot of circle holes, you could use a Shade with Spline, make a lot of circle shape, attach everything together and add a extrude.
Maybe you know this way, so it may be just a refresh -

22 Dec 2005@ Mr Killer: Sure i am not "in love" with boolean.. Boolean is the worst thing ever happened in max. My workflow and also my moneyflow would increase much if boolean would work...

Sure it will be in some magazines, because this are commercial designs for customers of my firm. we are doing the print and packagedesignstuff ^_^

Maybe its not possible to see, but also the interior of the usb port and the rj45 are modeled.

At Holysoft Studios everything is working fine, on January the fifth member joins holysoft studios. So far only one person is missing, a talented and very good Animator (*hint* Tyson *hint* *hint*

I dont like this glitterling shining lightstreams, so they are simply taken away. I hope the design will be an eyecandy if people look at in stores. -
