Every quarter at my school two of our teachers host "The Physics Animation Challenge". This quarter's topic was electro-magnetism, and here's what I came up with...(it earned me a 1st place prize which is 20 bucks to the student store at my school..joy!) Credits to Peter Starostin for the max rig and freeplay music.

If you don't mind, i found a couple of thigs that (in my opinion) should be improved:
- When the Magnetgician was hit by the sword, he shakes alright, but I think he should be shaken much more (a couple of unbalanced steps backwards, maybe).
- The power that Magnetgician use in his last attempt to extricate sword from the wall is weak. He should slowly move his torso backwards (with the head, and hand). I wanna say that you must show the audience that he use much more energy and mind power in that last attempt, than in the first 2 attempts.
- The cammera angle is not good. It's too flat. Some cool angle from side could improve sense of the depth in the scene.
Anyway, I realy like this animation. It's quite funny story, and I realy liked Magnetgician bow at the begining of the movie.

I Used a light CC effect in after effects. Using the rpf format rendered out of max, I used the material ID of lowmax's body for the target.
And DarkElf, I never mind a critique!
I agree with everything except my reasoning for the camera angle is that I wanted it to be as if we're the viewer in the audience and he's putting on a show for us, thus our perspective of him. -

15 Mar 2008Nice idea - I like it.
I do think you could have a look at the poses throughout the anim though. It reads ok, but you could really push the shapes of just about every pose you have. Get a nice clear line of action that directs the eye. The still image posted is a good example - right now the weight of the character is not really commited - but if you lean him forward on his left foot, into the direction of the the upraised arm, I really think you could 'sell' that pose a little better. (I don't have my tablet so I can't really draw what I mean - maybe on Monday when I head back to work) -
15 Mar 2008Still without a tablet - but here's what I meant. I put in a nice arc in the body, a line of action from the top of the hat down through to the right foot. The right arm helps to direct the eye up to the what he's holding in the left. Actually I still think the left arm is a bit awkward - I may try to bring that in a little closer and bend the elbow... but I guess it works

16 Mar 2008Ah, I see what you are saying. That line of action is much more solid/appealing and make sense with weight distribution...heh, now I am going through my animation and looking how I can alter certain keys.
