Hi ...
I did this one as a personal work, and to make a reel contains many scenes .. this will be the first one -insha Allah-
the story behind it is that when machines controlled the world and destroyed every living form on the earth, a small plant grows on an electronic place where a sentinel saw it ... but his system couldn't recognize this object and but him in a confusion about "what is this?"
am trying to make some other scenes shows the robotic have some human feelings suddenly like love, surprise, hate ... etc
done using 3Ds Max, Vray, Photoshop and After FX

Hey mate I like it a lot! The color scheme looks nice and the theme is appealing. Robot reminds me of the sentinels from the matrix. The only thing that's weird is the slight black outline around the flower. Looks like a problem with the alpha (did you set it to pre-multiplied?)

Hey man, welcome! I agree with everything Ivanisavich said already, and I'd like to add that the volumetric light that is pointing at the flower kind of doesn't make sense to me... I get what you're trying to do, but I think if it's supposed to be coming through that light source in the background, then it looks off a bit, I think by tying your lighting together a bit better you'll be able to pull this one ahead from good to better.

ivanisavich .... thanks a lot Tyson for the comment, but what do you mean about "pre-multiplied" ? ... do you mean the blend mode on the compositing app or something else ??
btw ... your work is awesome dude ... I didn't miss any of your amazing animation ... keep going ^^
zachm ... thanks dear .. about the volumetric light, I did it all on compositing work, so maybe it's like what you said, doesn't make a good sense ...
anyway thanks a lot that you mention that comment for me ... I will to do better the next time

Hey max,
"pre-multiplied" refers to the alpha channel data in your render pass. For example, tiffs and tgas have an option to save with a pre-multiplied alpha in the format setup options. I don't think pngs do though.
Mixing up your multiply settings can cause black outlines like that.

this one is just great, the lighting and whole composition works great! Awesome piece, can't wait for the next.

I think this is a great image. The only thing that doesn't seem to work for me is how the flower is composited into the shot. As Tyson said, the black pre-multiplication outline is noticeable, but that's easily remedied - in Photoshop, under the Layer menu you should find a Matting sub-menu. The Remove Black Matte option should do the trick; either that or select the outline and shrink it a bit, deleting the excess.
What's more noticeable is that the colours of the flower seem to be rather artificial compared to the other objects in the scene (ironic, since the main object is a robot!) - the green of the stem and leaves looks a bit too vibrant. Maybe that's the point! But with a little bit of colour correction, and by reducing the sharpness a touch, I think the image will be spot on!

Wiz ... thanks my friend for the nice words ... am trying to get the "next" one to life soon lol
ChristianLett ... thanks a lot for your tips ... about making a selection and shrink it, I didn't do this coz I did all my color correction on After FX as am comfortable with the mask and comps system ... but I guess you are right ... thanks for taking time to explain all of this, I really appreciate that ^^

Hey Yusuf, no probs.
In After Effects, you can try either of the following to remove the black fringe:
- In the project panel, right click on the flower image and select Interpret Footage -> Main and choose the Premultiplied - Matted with Color [Black] option in the Alpha section
- Or apply the Remove Color Matting effect from the Channel effects to the flower layer. It defaults to black so should have an immediate effect.

mahmoudnahmad ... thanks my dear, but actually I didn't watch any 3d palace dvds if you mean that ... all I did is taking the sentinel photos from matrix movie as a reference, and then tried to make my own one ^^
