Octave13 17 posts26 Jun 2008I saw Tyson's robo_ball tutorial and couldn't resist trying my hand at it.
What I ended up with is a cheap knock-off of what he did, and it isn't as good as his (obviously,) but I'll do another animation with more imagination on my part and post it here soon.
I picked up quite a bit of info from this little tutorial about 3DS Max and After Effects that had previously escaped me, so this is my way of saying Thank you, Tyson!
I love how the guy goes through the steps in simple, easy increments and does so much with so little. Great tutorial.
I hope I'm posting this in the right section, if not, could a mod please redirect this to the appropriate place?

26 Jun 2008welcome to the forum! might I add that your animation seems to be pretty solid. do you have any other work that isn't based on a tutorial?

Octave13 17 posts26 Jun 2008Thanks! Yes, I do. Most of my animation experience has been that of symbol, logo, and simple character animation for casino games, so I have a pretty good understanding of the fundamentals. I want to get out of the casino gaming field though. It's not where my heart is. Here's an animation test I did that was going to be for work, but I got laid off and I've since been doing freelance (still casino gaming stuff) to support myself.
This was my first quadruped walk cycle. Most of the other types of animation I've done are just motion graphics, but doing that helped alot in understanding the basics of animation.

Octave13 17 posts27 Jun 2008Hype: Thanks! Yeah, I'm livin' the dream, alright. I can't complain, but the only redeeming quality about doing casino games is the fact that it's an art job. Just not very fulfilling, but it has its moments.
Tyson: Indeed, that tutorial rocked! I love it when people like you share their knowledge so freely and actually show people something useful. You sir, are a bad ass! I appreciate everything you share.
Diemacht: You're right, that robot animation is a bit too fast. It seems to be on meth or something. I'm working on another one that has a more toned down pace. I'll post it soon, It's almost finished.
BColbourn: Thanks, man. If you look closely, that dragon's gait has a bit of a slide to it. I want to do more with that thing, but I really need to redo the rig, it doesn't allow for much mobility beyond a walk cycle, right now.

Octave13 17 posts27 Jun 2008Thanks Mechis! I saw your robot ball, I like the material you put on it. Kinda reminds me of Metroid.
So, I finished the 2nd Robo Ball animation, this time with a little more imagination than my first one. This thing was fun to animate! Thanks again to Tyson for the inspiration.

I'd like to add sound to this, does anyone know where I can find something I can use for this? Also, what would be a good program to use?
Anyone go see Wall-E yet? I loved it. I'll probably go see it again tonight. -
