Little animation test

11 Jul 2008Hi all, its been ages since I've been around here. I'm trying to get back to the habit of posting my stuff up. Anyway I just did this little animation test with a custom rig and was hoping to put it on my reel..
Hope you guys like it, any feedback welcome...and be really picky if necessary!

Octave13 17 posts11 Jul 2008Haha, that looks great! Short but sweet. Nice squash and stretch you got goin' on there. I guess the only crit I would offer is if you put this on your demo reel, make sure you have some acting animations thrown in there, too. I attended the Animation Mentor "Demo Reel Do's and Don'ts" webinar with Carlos Baena last night, and he kept reiterating the desire studios have for seeing acting and personality in the demo reels, rather than just animation exercises. They want to see the artistry and storytelling ability moreso than the exercise, and the personality behind the animation.
Bleh.. I'm rambling. You probably know all this anyway.
This looks great, dude. Nice job on the rig (that's another thing he said studios like to see; custom rigs.) -

oh man, an other one of these "crapy" bouncing ball animation, then the ball openend, then i was like O_o
i really enjoyed that clip and i hope to see more from you soon! very nice animation in there (well i liked it anyways) -

Octave13, I´m really interested about what u just said at the end, the fact that people are interested to see custom rigs...I always thought that somehow character design is integrated within animation as well, and that seeing the same rigs all the time, with different personalities, was becoming a bit redundant and taking away the appeal of the design. But then I've seen a lot of reels who have made it to feature film (BlueSky, Dreamworks, etc...) where they use a lot rigs like pjhogan or the animation mentor rig... so I thought probably I was wrong. But now that you brought that out I kind of feel I should be working on my own designs as well.
Anyway thanks for your input and definetely I will put some acting stuff in the reel as well. -
13 Jul 2008very neat character, as with rachard I was not expecting the ball to open but when it did and the lid moved around it surprised me, i think you did a great job and that you shoul use this rig in the future for more animations
