maybe some brake down how you did it
one thing bothered me though.
the explosion and everything is fine but it kinda looks like the explosion "misses" the tank
or the explosion isnt happening there where the rocket hits couldnt figure it out...
but that is critique on very high level. -

13 Apr 2010Thanks guys, about that breakdown. I used 6 different fumefx containers for this shot. All where simulated using particle sources except one. Rising fireball was created using 3 simple sources in one container, a technique explained by Allan Mckay in his DVD FumeFx:Advanced. With multiple sources in one container you can more easily control the shape of the fireball (by rotating and moving the sources) and by placing the sources close together you can create a sort of a preasure, making you fireball feel more violent and explosive.

25 Apr 2010Nice! The shock waves on the ground were a nice surprise, seems to get missed a lot in fumeFX shots I see. One thing you could try to improve on is the overall comp of the shot. The smoke that billows up is almost too graphic compared to the background. Can't be much more specific than that unfortunately, I've never tried to comp an element from fume before, it just seems to stand out too much along the edges of the smoke. Otherwise it's a pretty sweet shot.

29 Apr 2010Hey that does look sweet man, gotta love the fluids these days aye. My suggestion would be to add abit of turbulence to the fire ball slow down the time scale a bit and bring you spacing down. This will add to the sim time but the fire ball I think needs a bit more detail thats all. Make it blend better with your shot. Really nice looking man great job.
