08 May 2009Weeell - Has been a while since I posted up work. Sadly, most of the stuff I've worked on 2008/9 I still can't show for one reason or another.
So... rather than relax on my time off I teamed up with a couple of guys at the studio and we put together a submission to Siggraph's Fjorg competition - something I can post up!
It was good fun. Good for me to get back to animating again (have been looking after layout for the last 8 months). Worked alongside Nikki (team leader, ideas man and all round good guy)and Phon (very talented young guy that has just rocketed in ability and just get's better every day)

08 May 2009Bloody fantastic mate!!!! Love all the strong poses and 2d stylings (like the motion blur "lines", excessive squash/stretch)....glad to see you haven't lost your touch after not having seen your work in a few years

All told we worked on this over 4 weeks, (from when the competition was announced in April to the submission on the 6th May) though it was mostly a couple of long weekends and then some evenings. I rigged everything up in a few days (not including the Blake rig and the giant robot) and we just got cracking with the animation - each taking about 8 shots and running with it. I took the chunk from where the can with pencil legs comes alive to where he gets pulled off screen, plus the shot where he loses it at the end. I'd just had a Ren and Stimpy session before I started animating that last shot -

Will keep you posted about the entry... though I think they announce it in late June. In the meantime... we have to start looking for some sponsorship! -

that was so mad in everything: story, characters, animation ... really so brilliant
my only little comment would go for the compositing ... didn't like the background
and ... hehehehe ... the animoto control ... that part was so funny, with that japanees anime them

Not sure how you found out Clay - I've been waiting 'till it was all official to say "We Got In!" but hadn't seen anything on the website...
Anyhoo... "We Got In!"
Still a long way to go before I start getting excited because we can't really do it unless we get some sponsorship (It's a lot of cash for tickets!). We're looking in to a few possibilities and I'll keep you guys posted. Anyone here from New Orleans? -

I wish you guys the best of luck in getting there, you really do deserve it.
