09 Jul 2005Here we go. Something from me.
I don't have too much personal time for cg at the moment, so I been doing a quick little rocket animation similar to that which Tyson posted.
It starts out as a sphere which gets dropped by an airplane:
which then transforms into a rocket:
This rocket then takes off in search of it's target....
Still working on the animation... I'm kind of the new to the anim section so bare with me.

May need a touch more reflection of the Afterburn at the rear of the rocket? -

My only suggestion is that you vary the size of the particles as they come out. Have them get bigger over time...they're a little too uniform for me at the moment. -
09 Jul 2005agreed with tyson, thjose kind of things should go out in a cone sort of. starting out as realyl fine particles, then going out getting thinner and less detailed.

I usually do that with these kind of effects. I was just seeing how it looked keeping a fairly uniform trail. I kind of like it. but a little bit of expansion through particle age wouldn't go astray either. Will look into it.
Next Step: Animation!!! -

Can't the twirling be enough chaos? Coz I do really like it like that and so does Ridestowe . I've added in more than double the size at the end factor of the particle age and it still twirls nicely with space, so hopefully the best of both worlds. -

12 Jul 2005Just rendering out the animation today. (Going to take all day).
Had a quick look at the progress, it looks terrible IMO.
Am going to head back to it and re-do the clouds and shaky, and the speed and perhaps the explosions + rockettrail once I see what they're like.
Will post an update when this render is done. Should be ok! -
12 Jul 2005Ok, here is the crappy render. So much stuff needs fixing up. The rocket trail turned out terrible compared to the test-render. As did the initial explosion. Timing and such seems way off, and the clouds turned out horrible.
Back to the drawing board.

13 Jul 2005the cloouds arent bad. the shaking really bothers me though. i think that rather than the ball shaking, it should be the camera. i dont get how the sphere explodes to reveal the inside but i guess that's what happens. the steam effect when the two flaps open in the beginning are a nice touch, i liked that.

13 Jul 2005I actually quite liked the explosion and the way it pops out all spring loaded like. Yes the camera needs a lot of shake, not the object as there is no frame of reference it's weird to see the object itself shaking (though I did notice the very nice touches of wind rushing past)
I think it rendered pretty nicely though, I like the background. Keep it up bud -

And the shake has been transferred to the camera instead of the object.
And the explosion isnt absolutely terrible, it's just I can do better.
