Joshua Delaney here, recent graduate from Vancouver Film School's Digital Character Animation program.
Spent an intense 6 months learning animation, lots of maya, and other aspects to create a short film.
Previous to VFS I attended ISU studying cg and design.
Production time: 6 weeks
Running time: 3 minutes

27 Apr 2006Haha, I can't believe nobody has commented on this.
I loved it. Any animation that has a monkey in it, I absolutely love.
It's well done, and has a nice theme/story to it. To me, the poses seem a bit stiff and forced and lack in fluid momentum. Also, from what I can see, the lighting and the shadows dont really match up.
Great work mate, Can't wait to see more from you. -
27 Apr 2006Hey there - i missed this post somehow - hmmm. Lol - aren't cavemen great! Great idea man - the only crit i'd have is to improve the lighting, i enjoyed the simple feel to it - kinda like ice age - the aniamtion was great!

I've noticed the response on most CG sites are very sparce, maybe it's the file size..?
I have to admit my lighting is a little off, but the luxury of time wasn't in my favor (6 month project).
I could probably use a little more follow through in my animation. Great notes, thanks again for the critique, much appreciated!
iest rob: cavemen are quite ammusing..ahha. I'm glad you enjoyed the animation and look of the film. lighting is quite the task and something I need to spend more time on. thanks for the viewing and crit. best of luck !

story is nice, lighting and textures could be better...but as far as animation goes, this is deffinately frontpage stuff...
the monkey is great, sometimes reminds me on gollum, especially while hiding behind the stone locking up into the camera...

28 Apr 2006Yeah I'd say the size would play a major factor. It's always hard to show a reel or a short film with large file sizes.
From the length of this though, you should be able to compress it a fair bit better. Try offering different formats with different compressions, divx, e.t.c tis all I can think of
